Let's go to know a new country!!


United Kingdom is a country located in the North of Europe.
UK has a population of 65 millions of people. The biggest city is London.

Typical food

  • Fish and chips: is a fried dish of fish with fried potatoes. In UK we can find this food on the streets or in trolleys of take away food.

  • Pies: is a baked dish made of pastry and it contains a filling of sweet ingredients like jam or apple.

  • Tea: is a hot drink which contains water and aromatic plants. The tea time is at five o'clock.

Festivities

  • Saint Patrick's Day. 17th March. Is a party to commemorate the death of Saint Patrick, patron of Ireland. This festivity is celebrated in many countries of the world, one of them UK. That day streets and clothes are dressed in green.
  • Notting Hill Carnival. 29th August. Is a popular party celebrated in west London. There are music and costumes.
  • Boxing Day. 26th December. Is a party in which peope give gifts to poor people.

Animals

  • Turtle dove: this animal, which is a kind of bird, lives in big cities. It feeds on seeds and fruits. It's brown and black in the wings and the neck has black and white stripes.

  • Hedgehog: this animal has spines in his back and it feeds on insects, snails and frogs. It's brown with grey and yellow tones.

  • Red squirrel: this animal lives in the trees. The red squirrel is an omnivorous rodent, this means that they eat insects or small animals and seeds. It has the red and brown fur.


All this animals have in common that they are endangered!!
